Much like its namesakes, Book of Oz’s theme centres on books and The Wizard of Oz with Free Spins, bonus features, and a jackpot of over £125,000.

Since it’s all about Oz, the colour scheme is a mystical emerald (much like Vegas Luck) and the graphics are identical to the other Microgaming “book slots”, except a difference in symbols.

Gameplay

Bet anything from £0.20 to £25 per spin. The autoplay function lets you spin up to 100x uninterrupted.

The lower level symbols are 10, J, Q, K, and A. There are 4 higher paying symbols: a red pyramid vessel with a heart-shaped stopper, a purple hexagonal vessel with a key stopper, a sky blue vessel with a lion’s head stopper, and the Green Hat Wizard. Get 5 of the latter and multiply your stake by 250x (that’s £6,250 when playing a max bet).

The Scatter is the literal Book of Oz and pays 100x your stake when you get 5 on the reels.

Free spins are activated when you land at least 3 Scatters on the reels. 3 give you 10 free spins, 4 give you 12, and 5 give you 25. Scatters are available in the free spins round so there is the potential for unlimited free spins if you’re lucky. 1 symbol is chosen at random to become the “Expanding symbol” for the round. Once it appears, it will cover over 1 or more reels and increase your chances of winning. It’s a lucrative round as this is the only place to get the main prize of £125,000.

There’s also a Respin feature to consider. At the bottom of each reel is a RESPIN button. Once the reels have stopped spinning, you can choose to “respin” any single reel to try and get a win if you were one reel off, for example. Each respin comes at a cost and they’re different for each one. Only wins involving respun reels get paid out though and only active during the main game after the first spin.

The house edge for Book of Oz is 3.69% so not too far from the industry average. Be aware, the house edge does go down slightly in Free Spins round to 3.5% but the decrease is marginal.

Conclusion

Not to throw a dampener on things but there’s not much to say about Book of Oz that hasn’t already been said about Bookie of Odds or Book of Dead.

It’s exactly the same format, the same graphics, and the same kinds of features. So in terms of originality, this one is lacking. But we reviewed the others quite highly for those features so this one gets the same treatment. The graphics are crisp and vibrant, the potentially unlimited free spins is a big draw, as is the respin feature to “tailor” your wins.
