Stop & Step Streamer Review
Stop & Step is a slot channel based in the UK. The unique aspect of Stop & Step is that the presenter doesn’t just showcase the best in online slots, but also uploads content from fruit machines and Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBT’s) located in gaming arcades, bookie shops and land-based casinos. This down-to-earth channel pulls no punches and shows the slot world as it really is.
Who is behind the Stop & Step slots channel?
The presenter behind Stop & Step is an English chap named Darren, who has been a YouTube user since 2012. Since Darren films in real-life casinos and bookmaker shops (where filming is banned), his identity needs to remain incognito, so we don’t know a hell of a lot about him. What we can say is that he has the kind of deep understanding of slots and fruit machines which can only be gained by spending thousands of hours in gambling establishments. Call it a misspent youth if you like, but if you are looking for a near-encyclopedic knowledge of classic slot games from the ‘90s all the way up to the present day, then Darren is your man.
What can you expect on a Stop & Step upload?
Stop & Step essentially combines two different kinds of uploaded content. Firstly, your standard sessions playing online slots, and secondly, a series of entertaining ‘video diaries’ chronicling Darren’s forays into land-based casinos and bookies. Memorable uploads include helicopter trips to Monaco to play in the Casino de Monte Carlo (including rare footage inside the casino) as well as a jaunt to Las Vegas. This channel tends to take a rather UK-centric view of the gambling world and deals with the thorny issues that UK slot and casino fans face. These include the restrictions on FOBT stake sizes in 2019 and the ban on featured buy-ins on online slots. Of course, the online slot uploads are also fun to watch, especially the bonus hunts and the high stakes specials whenever a new subscriber milestone is passed. There are some rather tasty giveways up for grabs too.
Which casino games does Stop & Step typically showcase?
As well as the ever-popular online slots such as Jammin’ Jars, Goonies and Primal, Stop & Step also tries to cover the best of each week’s new releases. In fact, Darren puts together some really helpful walkthroughs of these games which can save you valuable time and money. But what makes Stop & Step so interesting is, of course, the land-based aspect. You can find Darren playing roulette-style machines in UK bookmakers, as well as physical versions of slot classics in casinos across the land (and abroad). These include Rainbow Riches, Spartacus and Sherlock Holmes, and if is rather fun to see these games played in the wild for once.
What have been the biggest wins on Stop & Step’s Slot channel (so far)?
Stop & Step’s biggest win so far occurred during the 50K subscriber special in the summer of 2019. Here, Darren played for high stakes and was lucky enough to win close to £10,000 on the Who Wants to be a Millionaire slot. Another memorable win was £1300 won on a bookie’s FOBT machine in 2018, using £50 stakes (sadly, thanks to the UKGC, we won’t see the likes of that win again).
Where and when does Stop & Step upload slot content?
Stop & Step uploads content to YouTube and (occasionally) on Twitch. Videos are uploaded 4 times a week, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
How many followers does Stop & Step have?
As of February 2020, Stop & Step boasts over 60K subscribers on YouTube, as well as another thousand or so on Twitch. Since the start of 2019, the channel has shown steady growth, nearly doubling in size over the last 12 months. Stop & Step’s growth figures show the benefits of concentrating on a particular niche – in this case, FOBT’s and land-based casinos – and the channel should pick up plenty more subscribers in the UK and Ireland in 2020.
Stop & Step is a refreshingly down-to-earth gambling channel, showing the exciting but also sometimes gritty side of the slot and casino world. There are few channels that offer the kind of thrills as Stop & Step does, not least the segments where Darren is trying to secretly film in a casino. We look forward to more adventures in 2020 and think this could be the year when Stop & Step hits the hallowed 6-figure subscriber mark.
